Summary:
This animated film, by Hayao Miyazaki, revolves around 10-year old Chihiro, who moves, with her family, to a new place. On their way, they get lost and come across what they think is an abandoned amusement park. There, Chihiro’s parents find an empty restaurant and sit down to eat. Chihiro does not want to join so she wanders around and meets Haku, who explains that this place is for supernatural spirits who are here to take a break and that she and her family must leave immediately. When Chihiro returns to her family, she finds that they have been turned into fat pigs. She tries to leave but the river has risen trapping her there. Haku explains that she must work at the bathhouse to free her parents. Chihiro signs her name away to Yubaba and is given a new name “Sen”. By signing the contract and working there young Chihiro slowly starts to forget her past. Haku warns her that if she completely forgets she will be trapped there permanently. During her first days, Chihiro lets in a spirit called “No-Face”. She helps him and he showers her in riches. One night, Sen sees a dragon floating around and finds out that it is Haku’s true form. He is badly wounded and she must help him. Will Chihiro help Haku? Will she succeed in freeing her parents?
